Daylight Saving Time - More Information

The Details of the Daylight Saving Time Rule Changes

What’s changing - and why?

On March 11, 2007, the Daylight Savings Time (DST) provision of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 came into effect. DST has been extended. From 2007, clocks 'spring forward' on the second Sunday in March and 'fall back' on the first Sunday in November. Prior to 2007, DST rules stated that clocks change on the first Sunday in April and the last Sunday in October.

What does it mean for my systems? The last US-wide change to DST occurred over 20 years ago (reference). Because DST was so well defined, manufacturers chose to embed DST rules into their software. For some systems, all that is needed is a patch. For others, date settings will now need to be manually adjusted.

Your options are:

  • Do Nothing - For four weeks every year the time stamp will be off by one hour.
  • Do Something - Altering your system time may be as simple as downloading instructions from our website, or an onsite visit from one of our technicians. It may be as involved as a software and hardware upgrade. Go to the index of systems on the DST page to learn more.
